Most villages were created in the medieval or Byzantine times. They have been kept unchanged and visiting them is for the traveler a short journey in time.<\/p>\n

Built in leeward slopes to protect residents from the wind, hidden or built high on the mountain to keep away pirates, they often resemble fortresses.The houses, built next to one another, “cut” the wind off and connect people. Whitewashed and simple, following the minimal Cyclades\u2019 style, they reflect a purely authentic lifestyle of the Tinos village.<\/p>\n
