MICHALIS TAVERN. In one of the most picturesque alleys in the center of Chora, where you will definitely pass by, the old listed building has housed the traditional tavern for more than 70 years. The family that has been running the business for the last twenty years works together to maintain the Cycladic style of the cuisine, with a few modern additions, while remaining faithful to the traditional flavors. You choose a table on the paved, whitewashed alley and, softly singing the artistic or folk song that is heard, you leaf through the catalog – an old notebook.

There you will find the typical Tinian meze (Tinian cheeses, “Fourtalia” omelet, capers salad, artichokes, fennel pancakes, fava and zucchini-balls with tzatziki) and appetizers (savory kantaifi, shrimp and seafood in various versions, etc.) that will prepare you for what is to come. For main courses, there are many choices in olive oil based dishes (chickpea “fricassee”, artichokes “ala polita”, baked eggplant), Tinian pasta and mousaka are special, while meat lovers will choose the “mixed” pork with capers and Tinian cheese, pitcher veal with cheese and sun-dried tomatoes, lamb with artichokes in parchment paper or roast. The menu is complemented by seafood (calamari, octopus) and fresh fish of the day. You can accompany them by choosing bulk wine or bottled Tinian wine, tsipouro or ouzo. The raw materials are selected from local suppliers and most of the vegetables come from the plain of Komi.

Depending on the weather, you may choose the interior space with an authentic vintage character, like in the old days! Michalis Tavern remains open from March to the end of November, from 12:00 noon until late at night.
