Rifi tavern makes a dynamic entrance this year, securing its place on Tinos’ culinary map. In the Cycladic dialect, “rifi” means a young goat—symbolizing far more than just an animal, it embodies the resilient spirit of island life. Located in Pyrgos, a village deeply intertwined with marble sculpting, the arts, and the cultural legacy of Giannoulis Chalepas, a traditional family taverna with a long history has been completely revitalized. Behind this creative venture are three close friends with years of successful experience in the hospitality industry. Manos Marmarinos and Antonis Papadakis, two Tinos natives who grew up together, combined their passion with talented chef Aris Roussos from Amorgos. Together, they have created a welcoming, laid-back hangout for groups of friends seeking high-quality, authentic food in a friendly atmosphere.
Carefully curated by the chef, the menu forms a creative bridge between past and present. Classic Cycladic recipes are approached with a modern culinary twist, yet they never lose their authentic identity. Notable highlights include the traditional fourtalia omelet with Tinian sausage, juicy handmade mutton patties, slow-cooked goat, chicken with fresh herbs, tender pork fillets, and a constantly updated selection of daily specials. Prioritizing seasonality and local sourcing, the kitchen actively supports Cycladic producers. Wild artichokes, local tomatoes, capers, and premium Tinian cheeses take center stage on every table. The dining experience is perfectly rounded out by “Stroflia,” a local tsipouro with a distinct fennel aroma, alongside a curated wine list personally selected by Antonis, which places a clear emphasis on low-intervention, natural wines.
